Rainbow & Brown’s Dicamba 500 Select is a selective herbicide that will kill or control various broadleaf weeds in pasture, maize, some forage brassicas, and waste areas.

General Information about Dicamba 500 Select:

Dicamba 500 Select is active against many broadleaf weeds and is particularly useful in assisting the activity of phenoxy herbicides such as MCPA750 and WHACK – 2,4-D 800.

Dicamba 500 Select can be mixed with glyphosate where control of white clover is desired and is a good option against any glyphosate-resistant weeds. The best control is achieved when Dicamba 500 Select is applied to seedling weeds (3 – leaf stage, or rosettes of less than 5 cm diameter), or used in conjunction with WHACK – 2,4-D 800 or Rainbow & Brown MCPA750, the latter, especially for thistle control including controlling Californian thistles. Also good against bindweed, fathen and docks as well as a large range of other broadleaf weeds.

Dicamba 500 Select is very cost-effective across a wide range of crops.

Because Dicamba 500 Select is effective against clovers (legumes), other legumes such as peas, beans, lucerne, lupins and clover should not be planted for up to 28 days. Grasses, cereal and brassica crops do not require any waiting period.

Great for use in maize and controls atrazine-resistant fathen in maize.

Dicamba 500 Select can remain active in the soil for up to 14-days after application.

What weeds does Dicamba Kill?

Dicamba 500 Select is commonly used in conjunction with MPCA750 and WHACK – 2,4-D 800 and is registered to control or kill the following weeds.

Annuals: Mouse-ear chickweed, Black medic, Black nightshade, Cape weed, chamomiles, chickweed, cleavers, annual clovers, cornbind, cut-leaved geranium, dove’s foot, fathen (N.B. not the dicamba-resistant biotype), fireweed, hemp nettle, hedge mustard, mallows, Onehunga weed, nipplewort, prostrate amaranth, redroot (amaranth), shepherd’s purse, stinking mayweed, spiny emex, spurrey, thorn apple, vetches, willow weed (redshank), wireweed.

Biennials and Perennials: Alligator weed, Californian thistle, cats ear, dandelion, docks, fennel, bindweed, goat’s rue, greater bindweed, hawkbit, hemlock, inkweed, leafy spurge, mallows, pearlwort, pennyroyal, perennial clovers, perennial sow thistle, ragwort, selfheal, sheep’s sorrel, wild carrot, wild onion, yarrow.

Weeds that are not controlled by Dicamba 500 Select include fumitory, plantains, star weed, stonecrop or speedwell,

Some do's and don'ts with Dicamba 500 Select

Do read the label carefully and in full.
Do use to improve the performance and efficacy of MCPA750 and WHACK – 2,4-D 800
Do use for conservation tillage and direct drilling of pasture grasses, cereals and brassicas.
Do not spray if rain is expected within 6 hours
Do not spray if weeds are wet with rain or dew, or are under stress from drought or waterlogging.
Do not spray outside recommended growth crop stage and do not spray Swedes forage rape or hybrid brassicas.

Recommendations

Pasture	100 ml Dicamba 500 Select plus 260 ml of MCPA 750 in 100 litres water/ ha. 120-140 ml Dicamba 500 Select plus 540g of WHACK – 2,4-D 800 in 100 litres water/ ha.	For the control of Californian thistle: apply as a spot spray just before flowering. For ragwort control. Avoid spraying the surrounding pasture. Even repeated sprays may not control regrowth, ragwort in multi-crown form.
Turf and Lawn	Apply 800 ml Dicamba 500 Select plus 1.5 litres of an MCPA 750 product in 150- 200 litres water/ ha. This is roughly equivalent to 4ml of Dicamba 500 Select plus 7.5ml of Rainbow & Brown MCPA750 in 15 litres of water in a backpack sprayer. As long as your 15L sprayer is covering 50m². If your 15L sprayer is covering 100m² then this equates to 8ml Dicamba 500SL + 15ml MCPA750.	Apply as a boom spray, or for smaller lawns use a knapsack sprayer ensuring you apply the same equivalent amount per 100m2. e.g. 8ml Dicamba 500SL plus 15ml MCPA750 in 1.5-2L water over 100 square meters.
Maize	Apply 400 - 600 ml Dicamba 500 Select in 200 litres water/ ha.	To control fathen (including atrazine-resistant fathen) field bindweed, and Californian thistle. Apply as an overall spray when the maize is 10 – 30 cm high. For larger weeds apply the higher rate. On short relative maturity hybrids (100 days or less) use the lower rate at the earlier growth stage. Adjust the boom height relative to the crop height for the best coverage.
Waste areas	80-120 ml Dicamba 500 Select plus 270g WHACK – 2,4-D 800 in 100 litres water/ ha. This is roughly equivalent to 12-18 ml Dicamba 500 Select plus 40g WHACK – 2,4-D 800 in 15 litres water/ ha.	Apply as a wetting spray in Spring or Autumn. Add glyphosate for grass weed control. Add simazine for long-term control.
Direct drilling of brassicas, cereals, pasture grasses	Apply 600 ml Dicamba 500 Select plus glyphosate at label rate in 100 – 200 litres water/ ha.	Graze pasture and allow 5-10 cm of regrowth before spraying. Allow three days for chemicals to be absorbed ( 5-7 days for couch, Californian thistle ) then drill as soon as possible. See the glyphosate label for dose rates for problem weeds.
Cereals: wheat, barley, oats	Apply 140 - 280 ml Dicamba 500 Select plus 1.0 litre of an Rainbow & Brown MCPA750 product in 100- 200 litres water/ ha	Apply only when the crop is in the 4-5 leaf stage, between tillering and jointing. Use the lower rate for small weeds, the higher rate for advanced weeds or when Californian thistle is present. Do not spray crops undersown with clover or lucerne.
Linseed	Apply 240 - 280 ml Dicamba 500 Select in 100 – 200 litres water/ ha.	Spray after the crop has 4 true leaves and before flower buds have formed. Some growth suppression may occur, with a delay in maturity. Do not spray crops undersown with clover or lucerne.
Oil seed rape	Apply 200 - 280 ml Dicamba 500 Select in 200-300 litres water/ ha.	Spray when the crop is in the 4 – 6 true-leaf stage and when weeds are small and actively growing. Do not exceed the higher rate and do not spray if the crop is under stress.
Narrow-stemmed kale ( Choumollier ) Thousand headed kale	Apply 280 - 340 ml Dicamba 500 Select in 200 litres water/ ha.	Spray when the crop is in the 4 – 6 true-leaf stage and when weeds are small and actively growing.

** or you can use 2,4-D Ester formulations at the recommended rate for that formulation’s use. Note. In Northland at various times of the year the volatile 2,4-D ester is banned so you need to use WHACK – 2,4-D 800 at recommended rates instead.

Kill Lawns Weeds

For most lawns buy Dicamba 500 Select and apply at 800ml plus 1.5L of Rainbow & Brown MCPA750 in 150-200 litre of water per hectare.

Can be used on couch or kikuyu lawns but is not suitable for use on buffalo grass lawns.
