Decision's active ingredient is flumetsulam, a selective herbicide taken up through the leaves and roots of target weeds. It moves through the plant and stops it growing, so treated broadleaf weeds yellow off and die back over the following weeks.

The reason it's a good fit for pasture is that it controls both annual and giant buttercup while leaving pasture grasses and legumes like white clover largely intact. That matters if you rely on clover for nitrogen and feed quality – older buttercup options can knock clover around a lot harder.

Buttercup gets a free run because it tastes awful to stock, so cows graze around it while everything else gets eaten down. That's why it shows up in the gaps, and why spraying before it flowers and seeds in spring gives you the best result.

Decision won't work well on its own. It needs an oil-based adjuvant to spread across the waxy leaf and carry the active in. BioWet is that oil – a food-grade rapeseed oil added at 500ml per 100 litres of water – and it also helps cut spray drift.

What's the best time to spray buttercup in pasture?

Spring, before it flowers and sets seed. Buttercup gets left alone by stock over winter and stands up tall in the spring gaps, so hitting it early – while it's actively growing and before flowering – gives the best knockdown. Autumn applications also work well.

Why do I need BioWet with Decision?

Decision needs an oil-based adjuvant to perform properly. BioWet helps the active spread across the waxy leaf surface and get taken up by the plant, and it reduces spray drift. Without a spraying oil you won't get the result Decision is capable of. That's why we've bundled the two together.

Will this damage my clover?

Decision is a clover-friendly herbicide, so it controls buttercup and other broadleaf weeds while leaving pasture grasses and legumes like white clover largely intact. This makes it a good fit if you rely on clover for feed and nitrogen.

Is the pack only good for buttercup?

No. Buttercup is the weed most people buy it for, but Decision also controls chickweed, cleavers, mallow, oxeye, sorrel, spurrey, stinking mayweed, willow weed and other broadleaf weeds. BioWet is a general spraying oil too, so any left over works with your other spray jobs.

How much area will a pack cover?

It depends on the weed, growth stage and your water rate, so check the Decision label for the rates that suit your situation. As a rough guide, Decision is applied at 30–65g/ha, so the Lifestyle Pack suits spot work and smaller areas while the Farm Pack covers larger paddocks with BioWet to spare.
