BOOSTING GROWTH, SAVING COSTS, SUPPORTING SUSTAINABILITY WITH GIBBERELLIC ACID (GA3)
We have been supplying gibberellic acid for over 15 years so we have spoken to many people who have asked us if gibberellic acid really works.
Gibberellic acid (our Gibb-Gro or Gibber 900) is a plant hormone that was discovered in 1953 and was mainly used on plants to do the following:
- Seed germination
- Fruit development
- Leaf expansion
- Stem elongation
- Enzyme production
In the early 2000’s trials were done in NZ on pasture and the results were quite spectacular. It was found that gibberellic acid stimulates rapid growth and elongation of grass stems and leaves, leading to increased biomass. By increasing the biomass or size of the plant you create a bigger surface area for photosynthesis to operate.
Some people argue that by “stretching” the grass you don’t actually increase the dry matter so it’s a bit like a rubber band being stretched. They reckon it’s still the same rubberband with no increased rubber! However, that might be true but it’s what you do with the elongated or stretched grass that matters. By applying Gibb-Gro / Gibber900 with a nutrient like urea, seaweed or a liquid fertiliser, like our Nitrosol Nitrogen Boost you are stimulating growth, increasing the surface area and giving the plant something to feed on. Add photosynthesis to the equation and the plant thrives. The grass is lusher, with increased dry matter, and the cows are happier.
We’ve seen great results during the shoulder seasons when the ground temperatures get a bit cold but we’ve also seen some awesome results right throughout the growing season when used in conjunction with other nutrients.
Many people who have applied Gibb-Gro or Gibber 900 with liquid nitrogen as a foliar spray or have used a Tow and Fert, have experienced major reductions in urea usage (up to 50%) and have seen a significant increase in dry matter. They have saved money, helped the environment and are now meeting nitrogen cap levels. You could call it a win-win-win.
Additionally, we are excited to announce a price reduction (as at 1 August 2024) on both Gibb-Gro and Gibber 900. This means even more savings for our customers, making it easier to achieve lush, productive pastures while also being cost-effective.
