My personal opinion...
When I was spraying my driveway at home I got fed up with respraying, and although being a manufacturer where I get herbicides very cheaply, I decided to go and buy a competitor product called TAG G2(1) that you can get from most Farm supply stores.
I gave up on this as although TAG G2(1) is a very good product containing 4 active ingredients, it was very expensive and, in practice, only gave me an extra 6 months before I had to respray, so I now stick with a mix of Granny (high strength glyphosate granules – for ease of measuring and use) mixed with MSF600 which gives some residual effect). Occasionally I will add our Halox 100EC just for grass control.
I frequently get asked if we have a TAG G2(1) equivalent and my stock answer and rationale behind the answer is purely financial and based on my personal experience.
I spray twice a year rather than once a year, but the cost savings are quite significant. To give you an idea 10L/ha TAG G2(1) will give 2-3 months of control. So, 2-3 months of control will cost you around $560.00(2) incl. GST.
The makers claim at 20-25L/ha you can get up to 12 months. So, for a cost comparison to spray the equivalent of a hectare will cost around at the higher rate and give you (maybe) up to 12 months of protection. The cost to spray a hectare at this higher rate would be at least $670 - $837(3).
Conversely, Granny mixed with MSF600, both at full rates (in fact the MSF600 is at the full rate for Gorse) would cost $131.10/ha(4).
Personally, I would prefer to spray twice a year and pay $131.10/ ha rather than once a year and pay $670-837/ha.
