Exploring the Potential of Plant Based Amino Acids

We have been conducting research and trial work on using plant based amino acids on pasture which we would like to share with our readers. The initial results have been very interesting and quite exciting.

While traditional amino acids are sourced from fish, our plant based amino acids are derived from soya plants. Farmers who have used fish based amino acids are aware of the outstanding results that can be achieved, and we believe similar results can be achieved with plant based amino acids.

Amino acids, the fundamental components of proteins and enzymes, play a crucial role in stimulating root growth and chelating soil nutrients. Chelation prevents nutrient precipitation in soil, enhancing nutrient absorption by plants.

Some additional benefits of amino acids include:

  • Enhancing photosynthesis performance in crops.
  • Improving the microenvironment of the crop rhizosphere.
  • Amplifying the synergistic effect of nutrients when combined with inorganic fertilisers, resulting in improved crop yields.
  • Long term application enhances soil porosity and looseness, thereby improving the soil’s water retention capacity.

Plant based amino acid contains around 16% of organic nitrogen. In this organic form, nitrogen is incorporated into the tissues of living organisms and is an essential component of life. Unlike inorganic nitrogen, which exists as ammonia (NH3), nitrate (NO3-) or nitrite (NO2-), organic nitrogen is part of complex organic molecules.

As a fertiliser, organic nitrogen contributes to soil fertility by providing a slow-release nitrogen source. As organic matter decomposes, nitrogen is gradually released and becomes available to the plant over time.

Using organic nitrogen in agriculture offers environmental benefits by aiding in the prevention of leaching and runoff.
