New Product Range - Cut'n'Paste

As you all know we frequently bang on about cut stump treatments for many weeds, especially the woody ones.  Many of our more than 90 Weed Files have some form of cut stump recommendation.  We have generally recommended Glyphosate 360, Glyphosate 540, Granny, MSF600 or GrassMate in concentrated solutions painted onto the stumps but this is not the optimal. 

So to give you the very best options for cut stump and individual plant applications, we have partnered up with Andy and the team at Cut’n’Paste to add this effective range of easy to use herbicide gels to the Rainbow & Brown stable.

And not only can you treat cut stumps and stems, but you can easily apply to the underside of the leaves of weeds with smaller stems.

The big advantages in using the Cut’n’Paste gels are:

·        Because you are applying only to the weed you want to kill you can use most of the range with no risk to nearby desirable plants, which makes it great for individual weed control in amongst natives and this is why the Department of Conservation, and environmental groups use them.

·        All of these products have very low levels 0.5% of surfactants and they are APG not POEA which DoC insists upon to reduce harm to Gecko’s and other fauna.

·        Ideal for controlling weeds in revegetation plantings, riparian areas and in amongst natives.

·        The method of application and use makes them quite eco-friendly.

·        You get to use effective non-selective herbicides like glyphosate, metsulfuron and picloram in a selective manner.  The glyphosate based gels deactivated in the soil so even if a bit of gel drops off onto the ground there is no residual activity.  Be a bit more careful with the Picloram and MetGel though as these both do have some residual soil activity.

·        No mixing required. 

·        The gels are ready to use straight from the applicator bottle.

·        No spray to be inhaled or drift onto plants you want to keep.

·        Convenient, refillable, applicator pack with a built-in brush.

The Cut’n’Paste Range

Cut’n’Paste – Original

120g/L Glyphosate as the isopropylamine salt in a gel

The original and well-known Cut’n’Paste product.  Tried and true and well-priced, Original will kill more than 600 weeds and grasses. 

To give you an idea of how Original stacks up.  At 120g/L it is stronger than Weed Weapon Invade Gel ⁽⁵⁾ which is only 100g/L.  It is also much stronger than Yates Zero Rapid Gel ⁽⁶⁾ and McGregors Weed Out ⁽⁷⁾ , and miles stronger, more than 16 times stronger, than Round Up ⁽⁴⁾ Gel as originally sold.  Cut’n’Paste Original was around before Round Up ⁽⁴⁾ Gel and the last time we checked we were more economical than all of these and in some cases by miles.

Bamboo Buster ⁽⁸⁾

240g/L Glyphosate as the isopropylamine salt in a gel

Don’t be misled by the name.  While this is great for Bamboo, it is also good for privets and other coppicing shrubs and trees.  Being twice the strength of Original it is also a pretty good all-purpose weed gel that will kill more than 600 weeds.

Glimax⁽⁸⁾ Professional

400g/L Glyphosate as the isopropylamine salt in a gel with only 0.5% APG surfactants.

This is a super strength glyphosate product mainly for use by professionals.  The big advantage is the lower levels of surfactant which reduces possible harmful effects on geckos and helps keep the overall toxicity (which is quite low in comparison to things like nicotine and alcohol) to a minimum.

Designed for tough vines like Old Man’s Beard that have small stems but large masses of vine overhead and need the highest possible strength of active ingredient.

MetGel⁽⁸⁾

10g/L Metsulfuron methyl as a gel

Most of you know our Rainbow & Brown MSF600, Escort⁽¹⁾ , or Mustang ⁽³⁾ when used for spraying.  These all have the same effective active ingredient as Cut’n’Paste MetGel.  Like the spray, this easy to use gel, will have a slower kill but the low levels of herbicide in the gel make this pretty cost effective and safe option.  This is ideal if, for some reason, you want to avoid products containing glyphosate.  MetGel is fantastic on gingers.

Picloram Gel

43g/L Picloram as the potassium salt as a gel

Many of you will know, and may have used, the old Vigilant⁽²⁾ Gel.  Our Picloram Gel is basically the same as the original Vigilant⁽²⁾ Gel and Triumph Gel⁽³⁾  This popular picloram gel trans locates well but it does have some residual effect in the soil so be careful how you use it.  Great for rhizomatous weeds and pretty good on agapanthus as well.  Also good on many of the tough woody species.

Lawn Raider⁽⁸⁾

25g/L Glyphosate as the isopropylamine salt as a gel

This one is designed for use around your lawn.  It is a lower strength glyphosate designed to have a squirt in the centre of those pesky broadleaf weeds that pop up in your lawn.  Don’t be misled though it is still more than 3.5 times stronger than the original Roundup Gel^(3).

Roll On⁽⁸⁾

120g/L Glyphosate as the isopropylamine salt as a roll-on gel

Also another convenient way to apply what is a pretty strong glyphosate solution to leafy weeds or broadleaf weeds.  You can also roll onto thinner cut stems and at 120g/L this is as strong as Cut’n’Paste Original.

·        Empty bottles with brush and cap to refill from the 5L refill packs.  The empty bottles are already labelled so you have all the instructions and safety information and don’t get products mixed up.
